HOTEL – A block of rooms have been reserved for the 2013 IEEE REPC Conference at the Marriott Stone Mountain Evergreen Conference Resort, which is where the conference is being held. Please find the link for the hotel on our main registration page under the hotel tab of our website here at www.ieeerepc.org. The rate for a single room with one king bed or two double beds is $129 per night plus taxes. The nights of the conference that can be reserved are Friday, 4/26, through Wednesday, 5/1. When you follow the Marriott reservation link, be sure it uses our Marriot conference code of “reprepa” in order to get this special conference rate. Room nights can be reserved starting immediately and will be available until they are sold out or by the last reservation date of April 15th, 2013, whichever occurs first. Please reserve your room(s) as soon as possible; because of the location we are expecting an exceptionally large group this year. Wireless Internet access at the hotel will be available at no charge. An all-day Monday (4/29) companion/spouse tour with lunch in Atlanta is available for $60 – details below.
STONE MOUNTAIN PARK – The conference is located inside of Georgia’s Stone Mountain State Park near Atlanta. Because the park provides a great recreational, historical and family-friendly atmosphere, the REPC is encouraging attendees to bring their families and come as early as Friday, April 26, or Saturday, April 27, to enjoy the grounds and the famous granite Stone Mountain itself, as well as the Atlanta area. As mentioned, rooms are being held starting as early as Friday, 4/26, to allow for those who would like to come early. If you do come Friday or Saturday, you can enjoy a free laser show with fireworks in the evening that is projected on the side of the mountain.
Your admission to the park is free because you are part of the IEEE Rural Electric Power Conference, and there are many free attractions within the park to enjoy. There are also many more exciting fee-based attractions that are worth your experiencing. Please go the Stone Mountain website at http://www.stonemountainpark.com to review all the attractions. All-day passes are available for purchase so you can maximize the opportunity to fully enjoy everything there is to see and do.
GOLF(Updated 3/15/2013) – A golf scramble is scheduled for Saturday, April 27 at the Stone Mountain Golf Club located nearby on the resort grounds. Tee times begin at 1:30 but carpools will be needed to transport players from the hotel to the course. Box lunches will be provided at the course so golfers need to be there early. Details on departure times and other logistics will be emailed to those that sign up. The cost is only $50, which includes the cart. Please sign up if youre interested. The clubhouse has excellent sets of clubs available for rent if you do not want to bring yours. Contact the course at Stone Mountain for club rental prices. Prizes and gifts will be part of the outdoor fun.
COMPANION/SPOUSE TOUR (MONDAY) – Please plan to have your companion/spouse join an all-day tour on Monday (4/29) for a special visit to the 33 acre Atlanta History Center. http://www.atlantahistorycenter.com/ In the museum section of the center participants will learn about the city’s history, get to know more about Atlanta’s role in the Civil War, see a collection from the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games, and much more. We’ll also tour the Swan House, which is an elegant Southern mansion on the grounds of the center, and have lunch in the beautiful Swan Coach House restaurant. It will be the perfect time of year to tour the gardens and see many varieties of lovely rhododendrons. And, of course, the trip would not be complete without a visit to the gift shops at the Coach House & museum. Total cost for the all-day tour will be $60, which includes transportation, entrance fee and the special lunch.
Tuesday meals (breakfast and lunch only) for companion/spouse are available when registering in advance or can be purchased when registering at the conference. All meals are buffet-style.
IEEE/IAS – I&CPS PIGGY BACK CONFERENCE – This year the annual IEEE/IAS Industrial & Commercial Power Systems Technical Conference (I&CPS) will immediate follow our conference on May 1-3, 2013. It will begin on Tuesday evening (4/30) with a free reception at the same hotel, the Marriott Stone Mountain Evergreen Conference Resort. REPC leadership is also encouraging all attendees to stay a little longer and attend the evening reception on Tuesday (4/30) and some or all of the sessions on Wednesday (5/1). You will have a unique opportunity to get to meet some of the other engineers and technical people in IEEE- IAS. If you wish to participate further at the I&CPS conference events on Thursday and Friday (5/2-5/3), it will require a separate registration at their website at: http://sites.ieee.org/icps2013/. Please check out their website for information on last year’s conference to see if the remaining events on Thursday and Friday would interest you. You can find it at http://sites.ieee.org/icps2012/. PDH credit can be earned at both of the free sessions on Wednesday (5/1) and at the regular I&CPS meeting events. Please sign up below where indicated for the free Tuesday night reception and Wednesday (5/1) sessions.
IEEE REPC TAG-ALONG WORKSHOPS – The REPC is planning for up to two tag-along workshops on Wednesday, May 1, to provide an option to REPC attendees in lieu of attending an I&CPS session. When they are finalized, they will be put on this website and can be registered directly with the vendor as usual.
EXHIBITOR AND BOOTH (10X8) SIGN-UP AND INFORMATION – An Exhibitor Request Form must be submitted with the company details. The Exhibitor Request Form is located on the website in the registration section on this website or by clicking the word EXHIBITOR. The rental car can also be used to get around the spacious park to see all of its attractions. Parking at the hotel and park is free. If a cab is used the fare could reach around $100 each way to and from the airport. Within the park, look for the location of the Marriott Stone Mountain Evergreen Conference Resort and proceed there.
GETTING INTO THE PARK – Note that the location of the Marriott Stone Mountain Evergreen Conference Resort is in the southeast corner of the park. In order to receive free admission into the park to get to the hotel you must tell the gateperson that you are attending the “IEEE Rural Electric Power Conference at the Marriott Stone Mountain Evergreen Conference Resort”; otherwise there will be a $10 admission fee.
